What is the role of a Human Being?

Data-Design Dictionary
A dictionary to illuminate data-driven generative design and creative coding.

Definition

Alongside the machine and the environment, the human being is one of the three instances in the generative process. The aim of the generative process is to coordinate the three instances in such a way that their programmatic interaction leads to the best possible result. As an instance within the generative process, the human being can assume two different roles:

1. as a creator, programmer and recipient, he or she stands at the starting and end point of the programmed design process.

2. as part of the environment, he or she can serve as a data source through his or her active or passive actions.
