What is the role of the Machine?

Data-Design Dictionary
A dictionary to illuminate data-driven generative design and creative coding.

Definition

Alongside man and the environment, the machine is one of the three instances in the generative process. The aim of the generative process is to coordinate the three instances in such a way that their programmatic interaction leads to the best possible result. The machine acts as an intermediary between the human being and the environment. It translates the data selected as input and, with the help of the program, automates creative, design, computational, and interpretive processes to transform the data into output.
